PEM nuts, also known as rivet nuts or self-clinching nuts, are a type of nut used on thin sheets or metal plates. They are circular in shape, with one end featuring knurled teeth and a guide groove. The principle involves pressing the knurled teeth into a pre-set hole in the metal plate. Generally, the diameter of the pre-set hole is slightly smaller than the knurled teeth of the PEM nut. Under pressure, the teeth are forced into the plate, causing plastic deformation around the pre-set hole. The deformed material is squeezed into the guide groove, resulting in a locking effect.

PEM nuts are categorized by material into free-cutting steel PEM nuts (S type), stainless steel PEM nuts (CLS type), stainless iron PEM nuts (SP type), and copper/aluminum PEM nuts (CLA type), each suited for different environmental conditions. Specifications typically range from M2 to M12. There is no unified national standard for PEM nuts, and they are commonly used in chassis, cabinets, and sheet metal industries.

Application Technical Guide:

1. The S series PEM nuts are made of free-cutting iron and undergo surface treatment after heat treatment. The CLS series PEM nuts are made of easy-to-use free-cutting stainless steel and do not undergo surface treatment.

2. The hardness of low-carbon steel plates must be less than 70 RB, and the hardness of stainless steel plates must be less than 80 RB.

3. Suitable for plates of various thicknesses, with a minimum thickness of 0.8 mm. The tail number Z corresponding to dimension A must be determined based on the plate thickness and nut specifications. Users should select and order based on the tail number in the table according to the plate thickness.

4. The hole diameter must be precisely controlled, processed with a tolerance of 0 to +0.075 mm. Punching is preferred. The nut should generally be installed from the "break" side of the plate. The installation process is typically achieved through "press-fitting" operations and must never be impacted or hammered in.
